Short answer: watch from Isla Blanca Park on South Padre Island. It's a Cameron County park, and the county changes its hours for launches. Boca Chica Beach and Highway 4 close on launch days by order of the City of Starbase. If you can't be there, SpaceX streams its launches on spacex.com and on X.
Starship launches from Starbase, at the southern tip of Texas. You can't get close to the pad on launch day, but you can watch from public land across the water. Here is what the official pages say.
Can you watch a Starship launch in person?
Yes. You watch from public areas, not from Starbase itself. The spot most people pick is Isla Blanca Park, at the southern end of South Padre Island. For Flight 14, Cameron County's notice told visitors to "arrive early and enjoy the view from Isla Blanca Park."
For the next date, see our next Starship launch page and the full Starship launch schedule.
Where is Isla Blanca Park, and what does it cost?
The park is at 33174 State Park Rd. 100, South Padre Island, TX 78597. The phone number is 956-761-5493. The county's park space agreement, revised on 24 September 2026, lists:
- Entrance gate hours: 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Day use: $15 per vehicle.
- Day use for U.S. veterans: $5.
Fees can change. Check the county's parks page before you go.
Do the park's hours change on launch day?
Yes. The county posts a notice before each flight. For Flight 14, it closed the park at 8 p.m. on Sunday 27 September 2026, and everyone had to be out by 9 p.m. It reopened at 3 a.m. on Monday 28 September, launch day. The county said it would post an update if the hours changed.
The same notice had two more rules:
- Walking, standing or sitting on the sand dunes isn't allowed.
- Expect traffic delays before and after the launch.
What closes at Boca Chica?
The City of Starbase closes the roads and beach near the launch site by mayor's order. Its beach and road access page posts every order. For example, Mayor's Order No. 2026-24 closed:
- Boca Chica Beach.
- Texas State Highway 4, from FM 1419 (Oklahoma Ave.) to the beach entrance.
- The associated FAA hazard areas.
That order set a primary closure for 25 October 2026, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., with 26 October as the alternate date.
The page also shows whether the beach is open right now. When we checked on 26 October 2026, it said "Boca Chica Beach is open." To get closure updates by text, send BEACH to 1-866-513-3475.
During closures, the City points beachgoers to Cameron County Beach Access No. 3, No. 4, No. 4 (West) and No. 5 (West) on South Padre Island.
When do Starship flights usually launch?
The time changes every flight. As one example, the Flight 14 page says Starship lifted off at 7:48 a.m. Central Time on 28 September 2026, from Pad 2 at Starbase. Our Starship launch schedule shows the next target time in your own time zone.
How do I watch a Starship launch online?
SpaceX streams its launches on its own website and on its X account, @SpaceX. The SpaceX launches page has the mission page for each flight. For every other launch provider, see our guide to official launch livestreams.
Tips for the day
Our advice, which is our own judgement:
- Read the county's notice and the City's closure order the day before. Read them again on the morning of the launch.
- Starship dates move. Have a backup day if you're travelling.
- Bring water, food and something to sit on. Expect to wait, and expect slow traffic leaving the island.
